Understanding the sun’s motion relative to the window orientation of your installed solar panel is a crucial element to predict your solar panel’s performance. For example, a solar panel located in Arizona will harvest more energy than a panel installed in Canada (considering both facing south using a similar window). The same can be said between summer and winter harvest performance.
A solar panel may not be a good fit for every iblinds installation. In the summer months, the sun rises higher in the sky than in the winter months. The further north, the lower the midday winter sun will be. Solar panels installed facing north can produce 4 times less energy than a panel installed facing south.
The chart below shows the average solar panel performance in relation to the window orientation of the installed solar panel. In some cases using a solar panel on a north-facing window is not recommended, however, we suggest using our iblinds charging kit to charge the battery every 6-8 months.
